Thanks to the flexible and advanced fiber composites, Scanfiber's products have many applications, such as in the military and law enforcement, civilian companies, and humanitarian aid organizations.

Scanfiber's lightweight armor is used in vehicles, ships, and aircraft, where only a minimum of additional weight is allowed. This preserves higher load capacity, maneuverability, acceleration, and a higher level of protection within the specified weight limitations of the vehicle. Wear and maintenance costs are reduced, and it is often possible to reduce the weight of the armor by up to a third compared to the weight that steel would require.

The principle behind fiber composites used as armor is a tight weave of extremely strong and solid fibers that are bonded together in a special heating process. In this heating process, the strong fibers and matrix (the adhesive) are pressed together, transforming it into a lightweight panel. Due to the damping effect of the interconnected fibers and the high level of force they can absorb, the transformation creates excellent protection against projectiles and fragments. Depending on the ballistic protection level, the composite panels can either be used alone or combined with a surface based on ceramics or ballistic steel. This achieves a very high protection level and a surface that shatters or dulls the incoming projectile, which is then stopped more effectively by the underlying composite panel.
